BCPS to Observe “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” on Thursday, April 27

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will observe “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” on Thursday, April 27, 2023, a national day that gives students a glimpse into the working work. This year’s national theme “Working Better Together,” emphasizes working together for a common purpose.

Designed to be more than a career day, the “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” program goes beyond the average experience of shadowing an adult. For more than 20 years, individuals, families, organizations and workplaces have joined in this day to expand opportunities and transform the lives of millions of children around the world. This nationally recognized program encourages students from ages 8 to 18 to accompany their parents, mentors or guardians to work.

Spending a day at the workplace with parents or other adults provides hands-on, interactive experiences and allows students to connect their classroom education to the work world. The event shows students the value of their education while helping them discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work life.

Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate and show students how their classroom lessons apply to the workplace. In addition, all BCPS schools, centers and administrative offices will provide employees the opportunity to bring their daughters and sons to work.

“Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” is a District-approved field trip and will not be considered an absence when a completed field trip form is returned to a school by Thursday, April 20, 2023. Students may participate in this field trip by attending a workplace with a parent, guardian, adult relative or adult family friend. For additional information, including field trip forms and activity packets, parents and guardians can contact your child’s school directly.
