Team Effort Leads #2 Sharks to SSC Win over Barry

The second-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Men's Basketball team continued its winning ways and extended their winning streak to 14, by defeating the Barry Buccaneers 108-92 on Saturday evening. Five Sharks scored in double digits in the winning effort for NSU.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half – NSU and Barry battled back and forth to start the game before a layup by RJ Sunahara gave the Sharks its first lead of the game, 8-7. Barry jumped out to a 14-17 lead before NSU went on a dominant 24-4 run and took the lead 38-21, with Will Yoakum and Sunahara each contributing 8 points within that span. The Buccaneers battled back, going on a run of its own to make the game 38-28. Led by six points from Kobe Rodgers, the Sharks ended the half on a 23-11 run, putting NSU up 61-39 going into the break.

Second Half – Jonathan Pierre scored NSU's first four points coming out of the break, helping push the momentum into the second half. A three-ball by Mike Moore gave the Sharks a 74-50 lead, its highest lead of the game and from that point, NSU never looked back. Barry tried to battle back, but the persistent Sharks never let up thanks to high scoring second halves from Moore (10 points), Yoakum (9 points) and Pierre (8 points). NSU walked to the finish line to earn its 14th consecutive victory with a 108-92 win over Barry.

STATS OF THE NIGHT

Sunahara (21), Yoakum (19), Pierre (17), Moore (15) and Rodgers (13) combined for 85 points on a combined 68.1% from the field (30/44).

UPCOMING

The No. 2 Sharks return home to take on another SSC opponent in Tampa at the Rick Case Arena on Wednesday, January 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
