UPDATE: FDOT has rescheduled the dates of the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel closure. Read on for full details. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is planning to close the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel around the clock between SE 2nd and SE 7th Streets from Tuesday, January 17, through Saturday, January 21.
Vehicles traveling northbound on US-1/Federal Highway will be detoured via SE 7th Street, SE 3rd Avenue, and Broward Boulevard. Southbound US-1/Federal Highway traffic will be detoured via Broward Boulevard, SE 3rd Avenue, and Davie Boulevard. Suggested alternate detour routes are included in the maps.
Those who live and work in the area are advised to plan accordingly and prepare for traffic delays. The closure is necessary to allow concrete pouring operations.
This closure is part of the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel Improvements and Pedestrian Plaza Project, a $28.4 million construction effort to rehabilitate the tunnel to meet standards for safety and structural integrity. Additionally, a tunnel top pedestrian plaza will create a livable community and enhance Las Olas Boulevard, and Federal Highway will see overall improvements for safety and mobility.
