Boaters Play a Key Role in Keeping Fort Lauderdale Waterways Clean

Boaters play a key role in keeping Fort Lauderdale waterways clean. After a day on the water, be sure to:

  • Use onshore pumpout facilities and waste dump receptacles to reduce or eliminate the discharge of sewage into waters.
  • Do not discharge any sewage (even treated sewage) while moored at a marina. Never discharge untreated sewage into US territory waters.
  • Follow the instructions when using and maintaining a marine sanitation device.
  • Whenever possible, use restrooms and showers provided on land.
Twelve of the 27 marinas located in the City of Fort Lauderdale have been designated as clean marinas by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). The City operates two marinas (New River Downtown Docks and Cooley’s Landing) that are part of the Florida Clean Marina Program that offer a total of 149 slips and four boat launch ramps. The City’s marinas offer free sewage pumpout services to marina patrons and the boating public. For the address and hours of operation of each marina, visit ftlcity.info/marinefacilities.

In addition to these two marinas, the City also offers a boat ramp with access to a self-serve pumpout system at Cox’s Landing located at 1784 SE 15 Street. In total, the City maintains and operates five pumpout systems at three different locations. There are also 5 privately owned marinas and shipyards that have operational pumpout systems within City limits. For more information, visit ftlcity.info/pumpout.

Take FDEP's Clean Boater Pledge today and commit to:

  • Use pumpout facilities
  • Support Florida Clean Marinas, Clean Boatyards and Clean Marine Retailers whenever possible

  • Keep Florida’s waterways free of trash and recycle whenever possible
