The Mayor and City Commission adopted the 2022-2023 budget of $176,369,722. This year, the Mayor and Commission lowered the Fire Fee by 5%. In addition, the Debt Millage was also decreased by approximately 5%, making this the third consecutive year of lowered taxes in the City of Lauderhill.
There were some take-away points from the budget message. First, the City has resumed a near-normal level of business-operations since COVID. Second, the City of Lauderhill received American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant dollars, which is helping residents and business owners recover from COVID related financial losses. With that however, the terms of the federal grant dictated the City had to maintain its’ 8.199 operating millage rate. Finally, the City has earmarked capital dollars to focus on the following: improving public safety, elevating the City’s technology, and upgrading our infrastructure.
Additionally, property owners enjoyed a 10.6% increase in property values. Therefore, if your taxes have increased, it may be a result of the increase in your property value - not your millage rate. If your property is homesteaded, your tax bill could not have increased more than 3% as a result of the “Save Our Homes” Amendment. Increased property values are an indication that your home, your investment, is growing in value.
Many ask, “How do our taxes compare to our neighboring Cities?” The City of Lauderhill’s millage rate is lower than Lauderdale Lakes, Pembroke Park, Hallandale Beach, and West Park. In addition, we are hopeful that since our budgeting process includes input from the City Commission, Staff, the City’s Community Budget Advisory Board, City businesses, and the Residents, we will continue to work toward providing an efficient budget that supports a level of service our residents enjoy. Creating the annual City budget is truly a team effort.
