Free opening reception on December 13 at AARLCC
"Frozen in Time: Selections from the Love-Thornell Collection of Black American Photographs," a view of Black America afforded by rare and historical images, will be on display from December 13, 2022 to January 4, 2023 at the Broward County African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311, 954-357-6282.
This exceptional collection of over 1,300 photographic images documenting Black American life from the mid-19th and 20th centuries was built by Jacqui Love-Thornell and her husband, Kwasi Thornell, and donated to AARLCC Special Collections in November 2021.
The exhibition opens with a reception at AARLCC from 2 to 4PM on December 13, offering an exclusive opportunity to discuss rare photography with Special Collections curators and the methods and techniques used to preserve, process and display this collection of treasured antique photography.
The public will view and learn about cabinet cards, tintypes, daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, stereotypes, cartes de visite and postcards celebrating African Americans and their families from a past era.
Attendance at the exhibit and the reception is free and open to the public; registration is suggested. Refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Friends of AARLCC. For questions about the exhibit or the reception, contact Rochelle Pienn at 954-357-7363 or rtpienn@broward.org.
