Our SUNsational Parks Team

Florida Festivals and Events Association

The City of Weston has been awarded a 2022 SUNsational Award, earning second place in the "Adaptive/Virtual Events" category for the Class of 2021 Cypress Bay High School Drive-Thru Graduation Parade.

2021 SUNsational Award

The Florida Festivals & Events Association recently announced the winners of its annual SUNsational Awards during their 28th annual convention and tradeshow in Orlando. The program recognizes members' innovation, individuality and creative collaboration among those that produce events, from governmental agencies to private companies. Nominations were accepted in ten categories, each category included three budget levels. Over 200 events submitted their materials for consideration.

Class of 2021 Cypress Bay High School Drive-Thru Parade

The City of Weston had the opportunity to produce for a second year in a row, a drive-thru parade for the Class of 2021 graduating seniors. The Cypress Bay High School Drive-Thru Graduation Parade hosted well over 900 graduating seniors, joined by family members in more than 500 vehicles, this was definitely a unique experience.

Weston's Parks and Recreation staff planned, organized and executed this event, along with collaborating with other city departments such as Broward Sheriff's Office Police and Fire, Public Works, and Communications Departments to ensure no detail was spared. The City of Weston was the first municipality to host an event of this kind in Broward County in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which lead to numerous municipalities planning their own drive-thru graduation parade events. The event was so well-received by parents, students and administrators that it was again offered for the graduating Class of 2021.

Congratulations to our 2022 SUNsational Award-winning team!
