Program for teens and young adults with developmental disabilities
Teens and young adults between the ages of 13 and 30 with developmental disabilities are invited to express themselves through music by participating in Musical Expressions, a program through the Parks and Recreation Division's Special Populations Section. The program will be offered on Mondays, from 5 to 6PM, starting on June 6th and running through August 1st (no program on July 4th). The venue is Shelter #11 at T.Y. (Topeekeegee Yugnee) Park (3300 N Park Rd., Hollywood 33021; 954.357.8811).
Program participants will focus on learning rhythmic patterns with different percussion instruments, gaining confidence, cooperating with peers, and having fun. Consistent attendance is required, as each week participants will learn new techniques that will build on skills learned in the prior week's class.
The program is free, but class size is limited, and preregistration is required by calling Special Populations at 954.357.8170 or emailing SpecialPopulations@Broward.org.
Adherence to CDC guidelines for social distancing, hand sanitizing, and wearing facial coverings is recommended.
