County Concludes Rapid At-Home Test Kit Distribution Program

2

Broward County recently issued the following announcement.

More than 125,000 kits distributed over two days

At 6PM this evening, Broward County, Broward County Libraries and Broward County Emergency Management Division, in partnership with Florida Department of Health in Broward (DOH-Broward) and participating municipalities, completed the successful distribution of more than 125,000 rapid, at-home COVID-19 test kits to Broward County residents. The outreach effort began at 10AM on Thursday, December 30, and concluded at 6PM on Friday, December 31. Test kits were secured through a partnership with DOH-Broward.

At the height of the event, nine libraries were involved in the distribution of the test kits. Despite long lines at times, the drive-through events were very popular with residents and Libraries Director Allison Grubbs said, "I am so grateful at the patience and kindness of the public as they went through our sites."

The successful distribution of the at-home test kits was a team effort. County staff worked closely with the following municipalities and their respective law enforcement agencies to coordinate traffic flow in each location, and the most efficient distribution of the test kits: Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Plantation, Pompano Beach and Sunrise.

Broward County Mayor Michael Udine said, "I am so happy that we were able to first, secure the test kits, and second, distribute them quickly and efficiently to so many Broward County residents. I also am very appreciative of the County and municipality staff who pulled together to make this public safety effort successful."

Any test kits remaining after today's distribution will be collected in a central location and a plan created for distributing them promptly in the new year. Mayor Udine also noted that the County will continue to request additional rapid test kits as long as they are available, and public demand exists.

"Clearly there is a demand for increased testing in Broward County," said Mayor Udine. "We have listened to our residents, and we are responding."

Mayor Udine also noted that the County has recently expanded its program of fixed test collection sites. Expansion efforts include adding test tents at existing sites, and adding new test collection sites. Broward County has announced seven new test collection sites in the last week.
