Florida Atlantic University recently issued the following announcement.
The awards keep coming for Alonso Coello Camarero and Ivan Mykhailenko of the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team, as both were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team on Tuesday. Coello Camarero and Mykhailenko were both recognized to the Southeast Region Third Team. This marks the first time an Owl has been named to the All-Region Team since 2009 when Darnell King was an NSCAA All-Region Team choice.
Alonso Coello Camarero, All-Region Third Team
Coello Camarero is a four-time All-Conference USA selection, becoming the first Owl to do so since Anders Granstad (2002-06). The Madrid, Spain native is a three-year captain, leading midfielder and heartbeat of the team. This past season, Coello Camarero had five assists to his name, which was the second most on the team and played the second most minutes (1643) with 19 starts. His assists came on two goals in the Owls' huge upset over No. 4 Marshall in the C-USA Championship, as well as goals against Coastal Carolina, UAB and Houston Baptist.
Everything on the pitch goes through Coello Camarero, who is critical on both sides of the ball. He delivers great opportunities for his teammates and has played nine of 16 games without a substitution. Prior to this year, Coello Camarero was an All-C-USA Third Team and All-Freshman Team recipient in 2018, the first Owl to earn C-USA First Team honors in 2019 and was a All-C-USA Second Team selection in the spring of 2021. He is also a three-time C-USA Preseason honoree.
Ivan Mykhailenko, All-Region Third Team
Mykhailenko is coming off his third All-C-USA selection in the past three years as an Owl. The reigning Spring 2021 C-USA Co-Golden Boot Award winner continued to be a prolific scorer, leading the team in goals (nine), points (18), shots on goals (21) and game-winning goals (five). In his three years at FAU, he has led the team in goals. Mykhailenko finished the year second in goals and sixth in points in C-USA with his number of goals being No. 36 in the NCAA. The two-time C-USA Preseason choice ended his FAU career second in career game-winning goals (11), forth in career goals (22) and eighth in all-time points (47). Mykhailenko, who is from Kyiv, Ukraine, was previously tabbed to the All-C-USA First Team (spring 2021) and Second Team (2019).
