HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Sharks were the first to muster any sort of scoring chances on Sunday, registering four shot attempts before the Sailfish managed to tally their first in the 24th minute.
  • PBA forced the pressure on NSU's backline, putting shots on goal in the 29th and 30th minutes. Like he has for much of the postseason, though, NSU keeper Alberto Ciroi proved up to the challenge, making stops on both, including a kick-save with his right foot to keep the match scoreless.
  • The Sailfish produced one final attack in the closing seconds of the half, yet Ciroi was there once again, collecting his fourth save within the opening 45 minutes to send the Sharks into halftime still tied at 0-0.
  • The defenses controlled play at the start of the second half, as PBA recorded the only two shots through the first 28:06 after the break.
  • Tino Miguez notched NSU's first attempt in the 74th minute, missing wide left.
  • The opportunity evidently sparked the Sharks, however, with Miguez leading the attack less than a minute later. Moving down the right wing, Miguez found Christoforou, who took one dribble and then fired a rocket off a sliding PBA defender and into the back of the net for the go-ahead goal.
  • NSU looked to add some insurance with a pair of on-target attempts by both Nick Brisevac and Christoforou, only to be turned away in the 77th and 85th minutes.
  • One final last-ditch effort by PBA sailed wide in the 90th minute before NSU could finally exhale with its Round of 32 victory in grasp.
