FAU to Host Events in Honor of LGBT+ History Month

Florida Atlantic University issued the following announcement on Oct. 4.

Florida Atlantic University will celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month with a series of events for students, staff and faculty beginning Friday, Oct. 1, through Sunday, Oct. 31 at its Boca Raton, Jupiter and Broward campuses. The events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Each year, FAU observes National LGBTQ+ History Month by celebrating the history and contributions of our LGBTQ+ communities. The month is celebrated in October to coincide with National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11.

Catch Rays & Chill

Wednesday, Oct. 6 at noon to 1 p.m.

Oasis Lounge, Davie Campus

Join SAVI & Program Board in designing suncatchers in support of LGBTQ+ History Month to be donated to the pride center. You will receive one service hour for completing two suncatchers, after the invitation to create your own fall landscape on a blank canvas. Drag Bingo

Thursday, Oct. 7 at 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Fort Lauderdale Campus

This is not your standard Bingo game. Join the Center for IDEAs for a fabulous night of bingo hosted by a special mystery guest. Learn how to play the game, win prizes, and enjoy the show. For more information, contact nmccall2020@fau.edu.

Understanding and Supporting LGBTQ+ Students in Today’s World

The Coming out Monologues will be an open forum for participants to share coming out experiences through storytelling, spoken word, song, dance, or in whichever medium they express themselves best. LGBTQ+ Spirit Day (Queer Coffee Hour)

11th Annual Drag Show

Friday, Oct. 22 from 8 to 10:30 p.m.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Opening act at 7:45 p.m.

Barry Kaye Auditorium - Student Union

FAU’s 11th annual drag show exposes participants to drag culture and its history. This year, we are excited to host Aja from season nine of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and season three of “Allstars,” along with locally known artists to perform drag theatrically in an environment that promotes inclusion and awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ community. This event is free for all FAU students and the general public and can purchase a ticket for $10. Tickets for the event can be found at fauevents.com. For more information, contact ideas@fau.edu.

Join queer Latinx Jewish poet Rosebud Ben-Oni for a reading of her award-winning poetry followed by a Q&A with the artist. Sponsored by the Center for Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, co-sponsored by Jewish Studies, the Studies of the Americas Initiative, and the Creative Writing program. Pre-registration is required for this event.
