Nova Southeastern University Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 4.
Louise Matsgard and Shannon Hearty recognized for their efforts in 1-0 upset over No. 17 Florida Tech
he two focal points of Nova Southeastern's 1-0 upset of No. 17 Florida Tech this past Saturday, both Louise Matsgard and Shannon Hearty were recognized Monday as the Sunshine State Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
The awards mark the first of both Matsgard and Hearty's careers.
Matsgard won't soon forget the first goal of her career, as the freshman tallied the match's lone score in the Sharks' best win of the season thus far. In the 44th minute, the Swede settled a loose ball before drilling a left-footed strike into the right corner of the net, notching the difference-maker against the Panthers' SSC-leading defense that allows just 0.71 goals per game.
Hearty, meanwhile, picked up her second shutout in goal this season in the victory. The New York native collected six saves in the effort, none bigger than her stop in the 75th minute on a shot from point-blank range by Florida Tech. She now owns a 1.17 goals-against average in five starts in 2021.
NSU has now won two straight games this season, and six in a row in the series with Florida Tech.
The Sharks begin a crucial week by heading to Palm Beach Atlantic this Wednesday at 6 p.m. For coverage of the action, visit the schedule page on NSUSharks.com, or follow the Sharks on Instagram and Twitter at @NSU_WSoccer.
