Florida Atlantic University issued the following announcement on Sept. 25.
The Florida Atlantic University football team fell on the road to Air Force in Saturday's matchup at Falcon Stadium.
QUOTABLE
Head coach Willie Taggart:
"We didn't play with the same physicality that (Air Force) played with, and when you don't do that against an option team, you're going to struggle. I thought physically they beat us in the trenches in this ballgame."
THE BEGINNING / THE TURNING POINT
Air Force (3-1) scored the first three touchdowns of the game, but later in the second, the Owls' (2-2) defense held the Falcons to a field goal. A four-play drive put FAU into the end zone, starting with a 32-yard rush by Johnny Ford and ending on a 34-yard TD by N'Kosi Perry. For each, that marked the longest rush in their young FAU careers. That ended the first half scoring, as AF missed a field goal with one second left on the clock.
THE FINISH
An elongated Falcons' drive, both time- and yardage-wise, extended the lead in the third. That would be the final score of the game on either side.
STATS AND RECORDS
Jordan Helm already had 10 tackles at halftime, one off his career high. He'd set that with two tackles on the same drive in the third, and end up with a team-high 15 on the night (12 solo, with one for a loss)
After that was a trio with seven each – Akileis Leroy, Diashun Moss and Korel Smith – while another three Owls had six: Caliph Brice, Zyon Gilbert and Antarrius Moultrie
Ford and Perry combined for over 100 yards rushing – 66 and 53, respectively – on just 14 carries. Ford's average per was 8.3, and Perry's was 7.6
Matt Hayball averaged 44.2 yards on six punts, with four of those inside the 20, and a long of 50
