Broward County issued the following announcement on Sept. 9.
Canned food, baby food/formula and toiletries needed
South Florida may be getting back on its feet after a rough year with restaurants closing and jobs lost, but the hunger crisis in the community is far from over. The latest statistics from Feeding South Florida show that 220,000 people in the County face food instability; sadly nearly 67,000 of them are children.
September is Hunger Action Month and we urge everyone to donate what they can to help those in need. Next time you're out grocery shopping, please consider grabbing a few extra items and dropping them off at one of the below-specified collection locations.

BOGOs (Buy One, Get One Free) items are a great way to extend your grocery shopping budget and help those who are less fortunate. You'll find a list of suggested non-perishable items online. Monetary donations are also accepted. If you're not able to drop items off at one our the County's collection boxes, you can visit Broward.org/fooddrive for a list of reputable charities, and more information.
At the end of September, all donations will be given to Feeding South Florida for people in need. Every donation, large or small, makes a difference. Please help spread awareness of Hunger Action Month by wearing orange on September, 17, National Hunger Action Day and using #GoOrange on social media.
