Town of Davie issued the following announcement on Aug. 25.
The Broward County Mosquito Control Section will spray portions of Broward County as a preventative measure to reduce the mosquito larvae population. According to the proposed map for the Town of Davie, the spraying will include impacts to the United Ranches residential community.
The county’s preventative truck larviciding will be performed between the hours of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting, from August 30 to September 17, 2021. This process is performed to reduce the mosquito larvae population such as that of Aedes aegypti, a known disease-carrying mosquito, and an aggressive biter. Please note that Broward County will utilize VectoBac WDG larvicide. This product is not harmful to humans, pets, bees, aquatic habitats, or environmentally sensitive areas. The active ingredient is Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti, strain AM6552), a naturally occurring, biodegradable bacterial mosquito larvicide. It is certified by the Organic Materials Review Institute and is registered for use by the US Environmental Protection Agency. In addition, VectoBac WDG has been reviewed by the World Health Organization and is listed as a recommended formulation for the control of mosquito larvae.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to reduce potential mosquito breeding habitats by regularly surveying their property to remove any standing water found in buckets, tires, planters, birdbaths, and fountains. By reducing the number of mosquito breeding habitats, residents will reduce the number of adult mosquitoes that could transmit diseases.
Broward County Mosquito Control Section continues to work closely with the Florida Department of Health and Code Enforcement partners in Broward's 31 municipalities to reduce the population of mosquitoes and their habitats.
