Town of Davie issued the following announcement on Aug. 23.

The Town of Davie is working to keep its residents and visitors safe as they utilize the roadways located throughout the town.

Effective Wednesday, September 8, 2021, the Town of Davie is expanding its red-light safety program by adding a new fully operational camera system location for those traveling southbound on University Drive at Stirling Road and westbound on Stirling Road at University Drive. Signs alerting drivers to the red-light safety cameras at this new location will be in place during the warning period.

A 30-day warning period will commence for red light violations captured by the safety cameras at these intersections. During this warning period, a warning notice will be issued to the vehicle’s registered owner and there will be no fine. After the completion of the warning period, a Notice of Violation will be issued which will result in a fine for any red-light running violation.

The Town currently has five other fully operational red-light camera systems at the following locations:

Northbound State Road 7/US 441 at Griffin Road/ State Road 818

Southbound State Road 7 /US 441 at Griffin Road/State Road 818

Eastbound Stirling Road/ SR 848 at Davie Road Extension /Davie Road

Cameras will operate 24-hours a day and capture images of every vehicle running a red light at these intersections throughout the Town.

The program is administered by Verra Mobility, Inc. Each violation is reviewed and approved by the Davie Police Department before being issued. A vehicle owner who receives a Notice of Violation can log on to www.violationinfo.com/ for additional information regarding their options.  A link to this site has been provided on the Davie Police Department website at https://www.davie-fl.gov/657/Red-Light-Camera-Safety-Program

How does the red-light safety camera system work?

The system activates when motion is detected just before the stop bar after the traffic signal has turned red.

The cameras capture two images of an alleged violation, taken from the rear of the vehicle.

The first image shows the vehicle at the white stop bar and the illuminated red light.

The second image shows the violator in the middle of the intersection with the red light illuminated.

The license plate image is a close-up from one of the images captured. Data, including the time, date, and duration of the yellow and red lights, also is recorded.

Cameras also record a 12-second digital video of the violation, including six seconds before and six seconds after running the red light.
