Building will be open in time for the November 2024 Election

Broward County and the Broward County Supervisor of Elections (SOE) broke ground today on the new Supervisor of Elections Office, which will be centrally located in Fort Lauderdale and easily accessible from I-95. The 160,000 square foot building will combine the two current facilities located in downtown Fort Lauderdale and Lauderhill, and will be hardened for hurricanes.

When completed, the designed LEED Silver-Certified facility will feature the latest in new technology and security. It will include a Lobby and Candidate Conference Room, ample space for the Canvassing Board, a Tabulation Room, Ballot Storage Vault, Manual Ballot Processing room, voter services and a warehouse for offloading ballots.

“The building design will provide greater transparency to the voting process with the incorporation of a large atrium for the canvassing board and a circulation corridor around the ballot processing area. As a member of the canvassing board and the Mayor of the County, I know how important transparency is,” said Mayor Michael Udine.

“We’ve worked long and hard to design a building that will provide the right balance of security and transparency during ballot counting, and this new building will accomplish that. I’m also thrilled that our staff will finally be working together in one location,” said Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott.

The cost of the project, funded by the Broward County Commission, is $103 million which includes the land, design and construction.

The new SOE headquarters is projected to open in summer 2024 and will be fully operational in time for the November 2024 Presidential Election.
