Emerald Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was identified as the largest nursing home in Broward County during the first quarter of 2026, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data shows.
The facility offered 240 beds as of the first quarter, exceeding the Broward County average by 109 beds. During this timeframe, Emerald Nursing and Rehabilitation Center supported an average daily census of 200.5 residents.
CMS awarded the nursing center an overall rating of 2 out of 5, lower than Florida’s statewide nursing home average of 3.3.
Sunrise Health & Rehabilitation Center ranked as the county’s second largest facility for the quarter, with 237 beds available. Pearl at Fort Lauderdale Rehabilitation and Nursin was the third largest, providing 206 beds.
From the start of 2026 through the first quarter, Emerald Nursing and Rehabilitation Center accrued $75,117 in fines across 11 penalties.
In all, Broward County had 24 for-profit nursing homes in Florida as of the first quarter of 2026.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the country’s older adult population has expanded as groups under age 18 decline. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Americans age 65 and up grew by 13%, while people under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The older adult population has seen significant growth in the last century, increasing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.
A 2021 analysis found that about half of Americans in this age group, nearly 28 million people, are likely to require long-term services and supports, including projections that over a third could eventually need nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
