It happens every day at Broward County’s railroad crossings – drivers approach the tracks as the crossing arms are lowering and the safety lights are flashing. The vast majority of drivers stop and wait for the train to pass. But, sadly, we’ve seen too many instances of drivers attempting to beat the train by driving around the lowered safety arms. The Broward Sheriff’s Office, Brightline, and several police departments are teaming up to launch Operation Crossing Guard from June 6 through June 17 at railroad crossings along the Florida East Coast Railway/Brightline corridor to educate the public about the dangers of trying to beat the train.

Remember to stop, look and listen when crossing railroad tracks.

When a train is approaching, never go around the lowered safety arms.

Do not underestimate the speed of the train. It may be traveling faster and closer than you think.
