Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand has been nominated as the club’s candidate for the 2025-26 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, according to an April 8 announcement from the South Florida chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA).
The nomination highlights Marchand’s perseverance and dedication during his career. The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to a National Hockey League player who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.
Marchand, aged 37, has played in 52 games this season with the Panthers and recorded 54 points through 27 goals and 27 assists. This marks his eleventh consecutive season achieving at least 20 goals and 20 assists. He also reached a significant milestone on November 13 against Washington by registering his 1,000th NHL point. He became the first player in franchise history to achieve their thousandth NHL point while playing for the Panthers. Marchand is also only the fifth skater born in Nova Scotia to reach this milestone, joining Sidney Crosby, Al MacInnis, Bobby Smith, and Nathan MacKinnon. He is also recognized as the league’s one hundred second player overall to reach this achievement. In addition to his club success, he earned a silver medal representing Canada at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina in 2026.
Each of PHWA’s thirty-two member chapters nominates one player from each NHL team they cover for consideration for this award at season’s end. The trophy was first presented in nineteen sixty-eight after being established in memory of Bill Masterton of the Minnesota North Stars following his death due to an injury sustained during a game.
The winner will be chosen from among all nominees across NHL teams through a poll conducted by PHWA chapters.
