Free festival for all ages on Saturday, February 4

Get ready to be entertained and enlightened from noon to 5PM on Saturday, February 4, 2023, as Broward County Library (BCL) presents ArtLit 2023 at South Regional/Broward College Library, 7300 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024, 954-201-8825.

This year marks the sixth anniversary of Artlit, a free, popular community celebration of art and literature for all ages, connected with the year’s NEA Big Read book selections. ArtLit 2023 explores art and literature with a playful explosion of live music, chalk art, spoken word, dance performances, crafts and interactive experiences based upon stories that connect us.

Visitors will experience a day of art, literature, music, dance, and all things Colombian as an extension of the year’s NEA Big Read themes and book selection

“ArtLit 2023 is buzzing with creativity, diversity and a love for the arts and literature,” says Broward County Library Director Allison Grubbs. “We are very proud of this BCL signature event. It’s not to be missed!”

Festival participants include Carnaval de Barranquilla; salsa demonstrations; spoken word by BluApple Poetry; vallenatos (Colombian music); carnival mask-making and photography/art workshops for adults; special appearances by Mirabel Madrigal with author Susana Illera Martínez to read her story and by PBS character Rosie from Rosie Rules; chalk workshop for teens; virtual reality for teens; soccer activities; video gaming truck; arts and crafts for all ages; face painting and the mobile Colombian consulate. There will also be free books, giveaways and an informative vendor area.

Major sponsors for the event are Children’s Services Council of Broward County (CSC), Friends of South Regional/Broward College Library, Broward College South Campus, Memorial Healthcare System, and PDQ (People Dedicated Quality) Restaurants. Additional generous support is provided by Baptist Health South Florida, Big Blue Swim School, Bolay Kitchen and WaWa, with contributing sponsorship from the Kiwanis Club District 24, Jason Taylor Foundation, Mi Libro Hispano, Pathway Pembroke Pines and United Way of Broward County.
